Happy 2021 Friends!
I have to apologize for last year. I had intended to work on getting as much information on this site as I could, but then COVID happened and my life got out of control. My primary job’s work-load increased, and like you, I became a full-time teacher while working a full-time job from home!
This year I am committed to helping you on your grandparenting or kinship journey. I’m here if you have questions or if you just need someone to run something by.
We have been raising two of my grandchildren since 2017. At this point, life has started to settle down, although we had to take extreme measures and move across the state to get away from all the daily drama.
The kids are doing fairly well at this point. They know that living with mom is not an option, at least until they turn 18 and graduate. My granddaughter reminds us daily that she’s leaving as soon as she turns 18. I still have hope that by the time that day comes she will understand the difference between healthy and toxic and make wise choices in her adult years.
We were finally able to purchase a house in November on 7 acres of land. My grandson is really enjoying his outdoor freedom, and for a change he wants to be outside all the time. We no longer have to worry about people “driving by” our house or sitting across the street watching the kids. Yes, that was a real ongoing issue where we were living.
Savannah has been in a group home since June of 2020. She has made incredible progress and is doing fantastic. More on that in the future…
I did allow her to start family therapy with her mother on New Year’s Eve. Mom told me she was ready, she has had enough therapy that she can take whatever Savannah has to say.
It sounds like overall it went okay, but mom did tell Savannah that I had been lying to her. We don’t lie to the kids, we don’t share a lot of adult things with the kids; whereas mom and great grandmother did. Going forward I will join the therapy sessions.
More on 2020 coming, along with any information you are seeking. Please feel free to contact me and let me know how I can help you!
Praying for your peace this new year!
